What you will learn

Birth Trauma as well as other forms of pre and perinatal trauma can leave lasting imprints on an individual's psyche. These traumatic experiences may become fragmented and repressed within the psyche and body as coping mechanisms that facilitate ongoing functioning. However, these fragmented aspects continue to exist within the individual's inner world long after birth, influencing thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and physical health.

Identity Development work invites us to uncover and integrate these fragmented aspects of the psyche, including and especially those related to birth trauma. Through techniques such as resonating, which involves accessing and articulating deeply buried experiences, individuals can begin to acknowledge and process the wounds and damage caused by birth trauma. The resonating process provides us with direct access to the period from conception through age two (and beyond), allowing us to welcome and reunite with the parts of ourselves we had to leave behind in order to survive our births.

By recognizing and validating the impact of Birth Trauma on the individual's identity, Identity Development work provides a supportive framework for exploring and addressing these deep-seated wounds. As we (and our clients) gain insight into the origins of our psychological distress and begin to embrace our inherent resilience and worthiness, we embark on a truth-centered journey toward healing and integration. Through this process, we reclaim agency over our narratives and cultivate a greater sense of wholeness and self-compassion.

As practitioners, facilitating both the births of children into the world, and that of adults into parenting, we serve ourselves and our clients most precisely when we can be clear and finely tuned instruments ourselves, holding a deep awareness of the tumultuous dynamics of conception, pregnancy, birth and the initial parenting period. It becomes critical for us to have ‘fine-tuned’ our own earliest experiences (those that were challenging and also enlivening) from conception onwards. This is what Identity Development work achieves, bringing into consciousness and releasing, through the process of resonating, our own wounds, our own emergence into wholeness and our own understanding of the treasures of the past.

Your Facilitator

Nancy Greenfield Ph.D., R.C.S.T.

Nancy has been working in the Pre and Perinatal field since 1998 when she first began working with families and helping children, parents, and couples heal their early traumas. She holds a master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with specialties in Pre and Perinatal Psychology.

Her focus has always been on early trauma and the youngest parts of ourselves that experienced and survived those early challenges. Her passion is to create a welcoming and healing space to meet and embrace these young parts so they can share themselves and become, once again, part of our lives.

To this end, she has developed an attuned capacity to connect with the parts of us that are forgotten and hidden. Additionally, she is very interested in the nature of illness as a further expression of our early traumas.

Nancy is a registered Biodynamic Craniosacral therapist, a Family Constellation facilitator with training in couples work and systemic medicine, and a specialist in the Vanishing Twin Syndrome.
