Module 4 Comprehension Project

COMPREHENSION PROJECT and SELF-REFLECTION INSTRUCTIONS:

The purpose of this section is to encourage both intellectual and somatic processing of the material presented. We aim to stimulate both analytical and creative thinking, so we strongly recommend incorporating artistic expression into your project submission. You are invited to utilize your completed project for your professional practice or to promote birth psychology to a wider audience through various creative avenues. Therefore, consider this assignment as multi-faceted, serving multiple purposes.

Questions:

Please respond to one of the following prompts for your project submission. Please clearly indicate which question you are answering.

  1. Please define "conscious conception."
  2. Share your experience with the conception meditation exercise. From your perspective, discuss the advantages or disadvantages of increasing awareness of implicit memories and addressing them if they are negative or overwhelming.
  3. Consider how you were conceived and describe the environment into which you sense you were received. Discuss how this period during your conception influenced your life.
  4. What are ways you can implement the knowledge that babies are conscious and sentient into your life, and how would the interweaving of this knowledge into your profession create positive change in the world?

Options and Requirements:

Stream of Consciousness -- For those who do not like to write, you have the option to choose a question and meditate on it. After meditation, write a reflection on thoughts, feelings, sensations that arose and write freely with no concern for grammar rules or etiquette, just write what streams forth from your consciousness.

Essay – A minimum of 2-3 double-spaced pages incorporating a critical analysis of at least three (3) specific points from the readings and ideally including additional outside sources, plus references. (Essay questions for this module are below.)

Video – Create a compelling social media video to promote your essay submission effectively. Write a concise script highlighting the key points of your essay. Keep it engaging and to the point, focusing on the main ideas you want to convey. Gather relevant visual content to accompany your script. This could include images, video clips, animations, or graphics that complement your message.

Art Project – An ‘open medium’ art project (paint, collage, fiber, stitching, jewelry, encaustic, mosaic, accordion book, etc.) supported by a one (1) page single-spaced narrative which incorporates at least three (3) specific points from the readings, plus references.

Movement – A video/film project recording somatic movement therapy supported by dialogue or captions which incorporates at least three (3) specific points from the readings and includes an endnotes screen for intellectual copyright purposes

Poetry – A selection of 3-5 original poems supported by a one (1) page single-spaced narrative which incorporates at least three (3) specific points from the readings, plus references.

Presentations (Power Point, Prezi, Haiku Deck) - A slide presentation (10 slide minimum) which incorporates at least five (5) specific points from the readings, plus references.

Case Study – Case studies will incorporate at least three (3) specific points from the readings, plus references.
